Article 26, Clause (4) states that: ‘Abortion is not permitted unless, in the opinion of a trained health professional, there is need for emergency treatment, or the life or health of the mother is in danger, or if permitted by any other written law.’, the exception “mothers health is in danger” opens the doors to abortion on demand. The reference to a “trained health professional” has not been clearly defined which gives practically anyone in the field of health the right to legally sanction an abortion. Therefore, the pregnant woman may simply feel like she can’t carry the baby to term.
The top reasons as to why people abort are because the baby conceived outside of wedlock and she may be considered as an outcast. Parents may be incapable of caring for baby. The baby will have inferior quality of life in such a way that the parents cannot adequately provide for him. If these are valid before birth, why not after birth too? We take too much time focusing on the now, yet the baby may be a blessing in disguise.
Abortion is wrong, therefore, because it is a failure to love, appreciate, and care for a human baby. It is also wrong because it constitutes the deliberate killing of an innocent human being. When people defend abortion, they focus mainly on the mother, and forget the innocent child who is gift from God. Had we all been aborted, we would not be here today. People fail to acknowledge that for every action, there is a consequence. It’s up to us to accept a situation and pray that we are guided through it. Besides, the bible speaks of what will be done to murderers. Here, both the mother and the person conducting the surgery will surely be punished.
Being the children of God, believer or non believer, our existence depends solely on a supreme being. He put us here for a reason. It’s our duty to take care of His creation, and clearly, those supporting abortion are not. We may be in the modern age, but that doesn’t give us the license to live whichever way we desire. The youth today, statistics show, procure most abortions worldwide. They commit the crime of murder and adultery.
By accepting abortion, as stated in the new constitution, we will not only be accepting westernization, but going against the will of God. I feel that the in this constitution, however much it addresses other things, this one particular issue bothers me. Yes, a new Kenya has been born, and yes, we are excited, let us not put so much focus on the positives, and turn a blind eye to what will definitely come to haunt us. These are the lives of innocent humans, and their blood will be on our hands.
